Our class has been immersed in poetry. We have been reading, writing and tweeting poetry! As part of our work in learning to read and write poetry we have been enjoying the poetry lessons on The Poem Farm. We were so excited when Amy Ludwig VanDerwater, author and poet of the Poem Farm, replied to our tweets! You can follow our poetry journey on twitter below.
As a culminating learning experience for our Physical Science unit we made (and enjoyed) ROOT BEER FLOATS. We began the lesson by discussing the various properties of the root beer, it's container, the ice cream and it's container. Once the class had shared most of the properties we began to think about the states of matter. Finally, we made predictions about the changes they expected as the root beer was poured over the ice cream. We hope you will watch and listen to our conversation and share your comments below. What can you tell us about clocks that we didn't already share in our EduCreations Clock Challenge. Please listen to our recording before you start to comment.
We had math and Mrs. Frazier asked us to push our brains. She gave us a 3 digit number. Mrs. Frazier set the timer for 20 minutes and told us to write what you know about this number at least 4 ways. After we were finished we felt really proud because we never pushed our brains this hard before. We showed the number more than 4 ways. Jonathan and lots of others showed the number 12 ways! Saanvi told us 24 things about our number! Read our charts in the picture to learn about how we felt in the challenge! Want to PUSH your brain? Tell us about this number 212. How many things can you tell us about 212? When I congratulated the writers of room 208 for making it to the end of the #30 Day Writing Challenge hosted by the team at Two Writing Teachers the room instantly erupted in groans and moans. Suddenly-Grace bolts up and with uncontrollable exuberance and shouts- "Can we make our own challenge? We want to keep writing!" Well, what teacher would say no to such a request? Certainly not me I have learned so much about these kids, their interest, their writing processes, and as young people with lives beyond the classroom! As soon as kids were off to Writer's Workshop I couldn't help but notice the line forming at the easel, Grace had created a sign up sheet for our challenge! We invite you you follow the links below and learn about us. Of course you can comment! That's the best part of the challenge, the conversations! Stop back daily for the latest post. *Note some writers are writing in their writers notebooks.
