We read Ducky by Eve Bunting. It is a true story about 29,000 bath toys that got washed overboard by a storm in 1992. This story told us that a boy found one and hundreds of toys were found on the eastern coast of Alaska. We wonder if you know anything about this? Do you or your friends know anything more about this? Have you found any of these toys?

I remember hearing about this. Scientists used the reports of Ducky findings to study ocean currents. I never found a Ducky because I have never lived by the ocean. I hope somebody who found a Ducky writes you guys!!!

I just read Eric Carle's book "10 Little Rubber Ducks" to my Kindergarten Library Media classes this year. It's about the same real story. Here's a link for some reviews that might lead you to the news articles and help you on your quest: http://www.eric-carle.com/rev-10LRD.html Goodluck!

I remember hearing about the story. I read that it took 15 years for some of the duckies to get to England. The oceans are so big, I wonder if there are still duckies out there somewhere?

I was living in Alaska at the time and it was all over the news. It was very exciting for us to think that they got all the way to us and how far they had traveled. Everyone was on Duck Look Out on every shore.

We have learned a lot about Ducky. We learned a Duck was found by a retired teacher named Penny Harris. She found it in Britain. Some of the ducks were split open in the ocean. The duck was covered in barnacles and alge.

Zoe tells me all about the Ducky books! They sound like so much fun. When we go on vacation this summer we will have to look in the ocean for some Duckys. I wonder if any whales swallowed any? 2/11/2013 05:07:03
I hadn't heard of the Ducky book, thanks for sharing it. I'm going to try and check it out at our library and read it to my youngest daughter. :-)

I stumbled across your website and I love it. I have not read Ducky, but it sounds interesting. Eve Bunting has a lot of great books! I did make a connection to a different news story I had seen, about a giant rubber duck that has been traveling the world. Here is the link if you want to check it out: http://www.florentijnhofman.nl/dev/project.php?id=154
